Once the secret was out, lens makers everywhere were besieged by eager amateurs. This 1968 Calendar is devoted to a brief excursion into the work of these four photographers: David Octavius Hill, The Scotsman; Julia Margaret Cameron, The Englishwoman; Adolphe Braun, The Frenchman and Thomas Eakins, The American, was just beginning his career as a painter. Hill and Eakins were painters who initially turned to the camera as an aid to their painting.
