Outside page edges very, very lightly age tanned. Boards are straight, tips are pointed, spine is square and pages are clean. DJ has just a bit of shelf rub at edges with one tiny mended closed tear at top back panel edge. Now in protective sleeve. An excellent gift! On April 19, 1783, Washington ordered his troups to go home. No one favored a peacetime army. Yet, the years that followed saw the young nation embark on a dramatic surge of expansion that now demanded the military as national protectors. Sword of the Republic is the story of the army in its new multi-faceted role as agents of the republic during the period of 1783-1846.
