The eight color illustrations are bright and clear (from water colors or from oil paintings of english novelists) as are the sixteen Black and White illustrations. Newspaper article about Elizabeth Bowen (Evening Standard - Page 9) with penciled notation London - June - 1951. DJ is lightly age tanned with two closed tears on bottom of back panel. Advertising on back of DJ advertising the early titles in the series of Britian in Pictures of which this is a part. Now in protective sleeve. A critical essay on the English novelists from John Lyly (1553-1606) to Virginia Woolf (1882-1941).
