338 pages; Very Good/No Jacket. Red boards with gilt lettering. Spine is faded. Tiny name and date neatly written to top inside board. Boards are straight, tips are pointed, spine is square and pages are clean. Never perhaps in man's memory were stranger trees felled than the seven plane trees growing the length of Barrack III. Their tops had been clipped before, for a reason that will be explained later. Crossboards had been nailed to the trunks at the height of a man's shoulder, so that at a distance the trees resembled seven crosses.
