"Edward Louis Bernays 1891 - 1995, was an American pioneer in the field of public relations along with Ivy Lee, referred to in his obituary as 'the father of public relations'. Combining the ideas of Gustave Le Bon and Wilfred Trotter on crowd psychology with the psychoanalytical ideas of his uncle, Dr. Sigmund Freud, Bernays was one of the first to attempt to manipulate public opinion using the subconscious." [Wikipedia] In this book, Mr. Bernays has, in his words, "tried to set down the broad principles that govern the new profession of pubic relations counsel". Although written in 1923, the book still contains much useful information for the PR fan and an early printing is a must for the collector in this field.
